About the Project

The Radiation Belt Modeling project is a grant-funded activity under NASA's Living with a Star Program. The project seeks to enable improved empirical modeling of the Earth's magnetosphere's trapped radiation. To do this we are developing a prototype database that allows user to select particle flux data that corresponds to specified magnetospheric states.

To date, the project has created a proof-of-concept system which allows limited web-based queries of the prototype database and receive data lists or graphical displays in response. Plans are in place to incorporate additional magnetic field models, more particle data, and the ability to query on a broader range of state parameters.

This work is a joint effort of NASA Goddard's Space Physics Data Facility, and NASA Johnson's Space Radiation Analysis Group, and other researchers.
